"The Drisha Summer High School Program provides a very important experience for its participants. It exposes them to the thrill and intensity of learning lishma (for Torah's own sake) in a way that their schools cannot. It fosters in them a love for learning and a deepened ownership of their heritage. I wish I had known of this opportunity when I was in High School." --Dr. Beth Samuels, z"l |

In 1988, the Drisha Summer High School Program (now the Dr. Beth Samuels High School Programs) was founded to provide an opportunity for high school girls from around the world to spend five memorable weeks together, building their knowledge and their friendships at Drisha Institute. Drisha also offers programs for high school students during the school year. They study intensively together in an open atmosphere which reflects a deep passion for learning and an emphasis on independent learning and thinking, communal service, and personal growth. For many of its participants, the high school program has been a transformative experience.
Teens can study at Drisha for five weeks during the summer or for three or four days in December with other high school girls from around the world. Whatever the season, Drisha gives you the chance to engage in serious study of classical Jewish texts. You will develop your ability to read and analyze these fundamental texts in the original. Explore Jewish texts. Ask questions. Make new friends. Have fun. Be yourself.
Students at Drisha form into a warm bonded group of friends. Although girls come from different backgrounds and with different life experiences, they are united by a love of Torah and a deep respect for each other's perspectives. Summer memories are recorded in a yearbook and relationships continue to grow through internet listserves and mid-year shabbatons. Many students credit Drisha with finding them life-long friends.
Dates: Sunday, July 1 - Friday, August 3, 2012

Known as the Dr. Beth Samuels High School Program, this initiative began in 1988 to provide young women with an opportunity to immerse in the study of classical Jewish texts, including Tanakh, Talmud, Halakha and Philosophy (click here to see a sample course schedule). Students live together and engage in both academic and social activities throughout the month.

LEARNING FOR ITS OWN SAKE.
Together with other motivated students, ask questions and pursue ideas in Talmud, Tanakh, Halakha, and Philosophy – with teachers who share your interest and love for learning.
MENTORS AND ROLE MODELS.
Students and faculty learn about each other in the classroom and during the extracurricular activities. Many of the teachers studied at Drisha, and most teach at schools in the US and Israel.
EXPLORE YOUR OWN QUESTIONS.
Why would God want Abraham to sacrifice Isaac? Did Ishmael deserve to be banished? How can Pharoah be punished if God hardened his heart? You choose the question that intrigues you, and research it with a faculty advisor.
DISCOVER NEW YORK.
Located one block from Central Park in Manhattan, Drisha provides participants with many unique New York experiences. During the summer the students visit the park to play sports, games, and learn outdoors. Activities include boat rides, Shakespeare in the Park, pool parties, and trips to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Jewish Heritage, and Lower Manhattan. During the winter, students ice-skate in Central Park, attend the ballet in Lincoln Center, and tour the Jewish Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side.
CHESED.
An integral part of the High School Program is the opportunity to blend Torah study with community service through the Dorot Program. Drisha students befriend home-bound Jewish elderly through weekly visits. They package and distribute food to the hungry and they brighten the experience of the sick by painting a mural in a local hospital.
