Introduction to Halakha: Holidays and Shabbat
In this introductory halakha class, we will build textual skills through an exploration of various halakhot related to upcoming holidays and Shabbat. We will look at how they build on each other, gaining an appreciation for the development of halakha.

Advanced Halakha: Mikvaot, Eruvin, and Aveilut

Stem Cells: Science and Halakha
Is it moral to extract stem cells from unused human embryos in order to use them in life saving research? We will discuss both the halakhic and bioethical issues surrounding the stem cell debate.

Sameach TeSamach Re’im Ahuvim: Let the Loving Couple Rejoice
Attention chatanim and kallot: Study together the laws of taharat hamishpachain preparation for your marriage. This unique class will combine the traditional study of the laws of niddah with a positive approach to marital relations. Source material from Tanakh, Gemara, and Shulkhan Arukh will be provided. Additional topics include: developing good communications during and outside of niddah, family planning and birth control, and interactive discussions about how to give and get the most from married life. One session will be facilitated by psychologist Dr. Esther Altmann, including role playing and concrete ideas for positive communications with your spouse. Translations will be provided for all Hebrew texts.

The Beautiful Woman Captive: Human and Ethical Aspects of the Jewish War Laws
The code of war laws in the Torah includes a stipulation permitting the taking of female captives. It is fair to say that this is one of the most troubling passages in the Torah on a moral and humanistic level. We will deal with this highly sensitive issue through an honest inquiry of biblical, rabbinic and academic sources.

Laws of Berachot
Through a study of Talmud and other rabbinic texts, we will examine the structure of different types of blessings. We will concentrate on blessings of tefillah, mitzvah, and those associated with eating.
