DRISHA Program for Bat Mitzvah Girls

Classes

Drisha offers several program options to provide an enriching way for girls to affirm their commitment, and for families to grow through the experience together. Open to girls ages 10–13 and their mothers or learning partners.

Individual Study

Over the years, Drisha has been instrumental in both training teachers as well as matching students of all ages with the appropriate tutor in terms of skills and approach and personality. Many students credit their Drisha tutors with broadening their love and appreciation of learning. Individual study sessions will take place in the Drisha Beit Midrash, where students find it inspiring to learn together with women of all ages and have access to a comprehensive library.

For the Bat Mitzvah Girl: Learn with an experienced tutor in areas of your choosing, such as preparing a d’var Torah, learning a specific Torah portion or another text, or how to layn (cantillation).

For Parents and Grandparents: Learn with an experienced tutor to deepen your understanding, such as studying a specific Torah portion or supporting your child’s preparation.

To learn more or to request a tutor, contact Drisha at 212-595-0307 or email batmitzvah@drisha.org. You will be asked which texts or areas of study you would like to pursue, as well as any related requirements. Based on your individual needs, Drisha will recommend a tutor. The tutor will work out specific arrangements with the family, including frequency and timing of sessions as well as the hourly payment, which is made directly to the tutor.

Guidance

Interested in exploring different ideas for your Bat Mitzvah celebration? For guidance, families can consult with a Drisha educator after class or by appointment.

To enable Drisha to continue to serve the community, participants are asked to make a minimum contribution in the range of $100 to $500, depending on the length of time that the tutor has learned with you in the Beit Midrash.
